FLAMA 2024 EDITION

The 2024 challenge allowed learners from grade lower primary (1-3), Upper Primary (4-6), Junior School (7-8) and Special Need Learner Schools. Learners were able to express themselves through art, essay (English and Swahili), Spoken Word (English, Swahili and Sign Language). A circular was shared to all schools through the Ministry of Education to all county directors of Education to disseminate information to head teachers in the respective counties nationally. As part of the outreach program, MaMa Doing Good conducted school outreach programs where representatives from the Office went to schools in selected counties to educate them on what the award is, how to register and the theme of the award.
To allow learners entries to be submitted, schools registered on the FLAMA Portal through awards.flama.go.ke. Thereafter, schools were able to submit their respective entries per category. The registration and submission process ran from March 2024 – July 2024 to give learners and teachers ample time for the learning process and submission to be done.
ASSESSMENT

After the submission of entries was closed, a rigorous assessment process was then done with assessors from different areas of expertise include The Ministry of Education, Ministry of Environment Climate Change and Forestry, Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), National Environment Management Authority (NEMA),
National Environment, Trust Fund (NETFUND), Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Kenyatta University, Murang’a School for The Hearing Impaired, METIS, CAVU, Wavumbuzi and E-Kitabu. A five-day assessment process took place at KICD where all the entries were assessed and the winning learners were picked.
AWARDS CEREMONY
The FLAMA 2024 award Ceremony was held on October 10th, Mazingira Day at the pavilion statehouse and was graced by Her Excellency the First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, Mama Rachel Ruto alongside were key government officials including Hon. Aden Duale, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, as well as Principal Secretaries, Dr. Belio Kipsang of Basic Education,
Mr Gitonga Mugambi of Forestry and Ms. Aurelia Rono of Parliamentary Affairs. The event had over 200 learners including the winning learners, 100 teachers and 200 invited guests. Schools that had winning learners were recognized and awarded for their efforts by Her Excellency, Mama Rachel Ruto, as well as the teachers of the winning schools.
ECO-LEARNING TRIP
To make the award truly memorable, an engaging and exciting eco-themed learning program was organized for the learners.
